Review of Comcast’s 1mb $24.95 Internet Package

I saw a commercial for this the other night, so when I went to pay the bill today I had Comcast change me over to the $25 1MB internet package. It will save me about $18 per month. I download alot of stuff and rarely see speeds above 600kb anyway (limitation of the servers I am downloading from and not Comcast) so 1MB shouldn’t affect me. After I got home I did a speed test and sure enough they had already swapped me over. The download speed was right at 1MB and the upload was about 250kb. This is a package and not a promotional offer by the way, so it stays at $25.

The internet still “feels the same.” The only thing I thing I have noticed is that when you load a page with a bunch of pictures it takes another second or so for them all to download, but most people would never notice anything. It’s not noticeable enough to me to make me switch back and pay another $18/mo though. Our internet phone still works fine, so if you have something similar, Vonage, etc., you will be fine.

DSL has offered these slower speeds for a while now, and I am surprised that Comcast hasn’t done this sooner. It could be them trying to compete with DSL or maybe trying to keep customers because of the economic slowdown. Anyway, thought I would share my review of it. Has anyone else switched? If so, what do you think?

Centry-Tell offers 5mb download and 3.5 mb upload for 15$ a month. It may not be available in your area, so check out what is.
